Fall Activities for Seniors

Posted by Annie Keough on September 27, 2021

With the official start of fall upon us and cold weather just around the corner, it's time to start planning some fun autumn activities for you and your family.

Here are some engaging fall activities to celebrate the beginning of autumn:

  • 1. Don't overlook the classics

They're classics for a reason. Activities like apple-picking or going to a pumpkin patch with family are staples of fall and shouldn't be missed.

  • 2. Visit a vineyard

Take a trip to a local vineyard to enjoy the cool weather and the changing colors of the leaves. Teetotalers can enjoy the view while wine enthusiasts sip a selection of wines.

  • 3. Bake some fall-inspired sweets

Homemade baked goods are the perfect match for chilly weather. Throw in some pumpkin or apple flavors and you are all set for autumn! Check out this list of fall desserts to get started.

  • 4. Get ready for Halloween

Carving pumpkins with your grandkids, planning a costume contest in your community, or creating Halloween-themed decorations to prepare for trick-or-treaters are all fun ways to get into the spirit of the season.

  • 5. Go on a hike

A low-impact hike in the woods or a stroll through the park are excellent ways to enjoy the changing leaves while spending quality time with those you love.

  • 6. Hold a bonfire at your community

Take advantage of the weather and host a bonfire event in your community. Get a group of fellow residents to tell stories, read, or enjoy each other’s company around the fire.

  • 7. Start a fall garden inside

Although the outside flowering season has ended, don't let that stop you from creating a bountiful garden. Herbs like oregano, parsley, or rosemary grow inside year-round and can enhance any dish. You could also plant spring-blooming bulbs like tulips, daffodils, or hyacinths to get a head start on your outdoor spring garden.

  • 8. Tailgate Sundays

Gather all the sports fans in the community for weekly tailgates to support your local football team. Check out this tailgate checklist to ensure you have everything you need to kick off the season.
